Welcome to Shuttle & Needle

Welcome to Shuttle & Needle, where I’ll talk about textile arts. The title refers to the idea that most textile arts involve either a shuttle (weaving arts) or a needle (embroidery, knitting, crochet….) Yes, it’s true that some of the textile arts I’ll talk about don’t use either a Shuttle or a Needle, but “Shuttle, Needle, String and other things” was just too long!

Topics of discussion will include research on historic textile arts as well as “working notes” of my own projects, both historically based and modern. I’ll talk about my embroidery based on the Bayeux Tapestry as well as the next pair of socks I’m going to knit. My interest in textile arts knows few boundaries, so topics will be varied – there will be card weaving, rigid heddle weaving, embroidery, fingerloop braiding, lacemaking …. if it’s done with string and/or fabric, it will probably find its way onto this blog
